After all these years what is the general feeling toward Lincoln? I know he is revered as a great president but I live in the North and assume that all Americans feel the same way.

For the most part Lincoln is highly respected in the south due to that being pushed in schools. There's a segment of the south that believes that Lincoln caused the outbreak of war with the way he handled the Fort Sumter situation after SC seceded from the union. Also there's a question if the had the constitutional authority to go to war to keep the union intact.

Now, ask us about Sherman and you 'll get a much more passionate response.
