Who cut the cheese?

Guest
i mean, how to they get today's news to us at like, 7 in the morning. how many ppl work on one newspaper???

Missy said it perfectly.

Basically, the paper is completed by midnight or 1 a.m. Then, it's printed and distributed to the delivery drivers. They deliver it to your mailbox while you're in bed, then you wake up and get it.

Often with newspapers they have a radio scanner that links into the police/fire/ambulance line. Also, they have their own contacts with/in the forces.

Where I work, in the editorial department there are some 200 staff covering world news, local news and sport.

You must also not forget the photographers as well(no I am not one), but they are there at the scene snapping away... no matter how morbid the story may be(ie there was a horrendous car crash in my local area where a car had crashed into a gas pump... 3 were trapped in the burning car and one managed to crawl out with 3rd degree burns covering 70% of his body and yet one of our photographers Kurt had been there for the images - I, myself, would not be able to handle that -).

It also helps that in the 200 editorial staff there is a night shift that goes to 1am. I believe that our Chief Editor stays behind til some time later until it is sent to be printed.

In regards to "News Breaks" our website is a key part in that. There are 17 people that maintain the site at all hours of the day.

I hope this helps.

EDIT ---- Actually Slater, where I work, we have 2 papers. A free community paper that gets distributed in 3 main target areas by people that are hired by my company to insert flyers, fold them, slip them in bags(to save them from the rain) and distribute them amoungst the home. The other newspaper is one that is bought and paid for 6 days a week. :o)
