I am a heterosexual male (mid 20's), and I met a young woman (a few years younger) and we arranged to go out on a date in a couple weeks. I barely know her, and we have only spoken a couple times. Before our date, she canceled and informed me that she had been the victim of a sexual assault several days prior.
We still talk and are planning on rescheduling our date, but I feel a serious desire to protect and comfort her. This, even though there is no other background for these feelings. I have given her support, advice, and space, but I have this overwhelming desire to "save" her (comparable to a Hollywood story). I have read up on the Superman Complex, but I don't think it applies to this situation. Obviously this is a result of gender-branding in our patriarchal society, but I'm looking for more specific research.
Does anyone have any better idea of what I'm describing, or can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you.
