Maybe a bit of an obvious question but how does philosophy help a civilization advance?

It doesn't, economic does. Philosophy is use less. ALL HAIL ECONOMICS THE GOD OF ALL SOCIAL SCIENCE.

It does not. Nor does religion. In thousands of years, all the churches and philosophies mankind has produced, have failed to improve the quality of human behavior at all.

comon jerry, philosophy dont much improve a civ, but it shows a new level that civ be achievin. thank it be like a level up, all a sudden u know to question som shiiii like "what is me?" or some ballsey heady stuff

Philosophy is a kind of collective mental toolkit of a civilization, offering different ways of adjusting or fixing social, ethical, and educational concerns, and in a larger sense, a way of fostering a more profound sense of what it means to be part of a larger whole and a living, thinking being.

They say that the gap between philosophic men and regular men is greater than the gap between regular men and your basic chimp. Mankind hasn't evolved in over 2000 years. The ancient Greeks were just as advanced as we are.
