How does one write a thesis for a history book or encyclopedia?

I have much of my research paper written out or planned already, but one of the requirements is that we determine the author's thesis and indicate how he supports that. The issue here is that we are required to use one website, one encyclopedia, one book, and one journal article/essay. If the purpose of a work is to provide factual information on a topic (my topic is Greek mythology), how is there a thesis? It assesses the facts and presents them, no argument needed and no sides chosen. I can get the thesis of the journal piece easily enough, but what should I do for the rest of it?

I know HOW to write a thesis, I just don't know what it would be in this instance. Any assistance from college students or alumni would be appreciated.
I don't know that it will help, but the books in question are "An Introduction to the Greek World" by Peter D. Arnott and the Praeger Encyclopedia of Ancient Greek Civilization.
