How does one know which art path to choose?

How does one know which path to choose? Hell if I know.That's a tough one to advise someone on.You are asking for a life decision. If I were to say go left and you went left and it was a dead-end you'd resent my advice. I have a B.F.A. and a M.F.A.,it got me job. Does someone need a degree to make art? No. But someone needs credentials to get a job. A degree says that an individual met certain goals and requirements set forth by an accredited university. A person with no degree and a very good portfolio might get a job,but chances are the individual with the degree would win out I am not trying to say here that a degree is a qualifier for being an artist. Far from it I know of people with degrees that I would not hire if I were in a position to hire. But the system now calls for the piece of lambskin with a university's name and seal on it. There are two universities that I know of that seem to have a very practical approach to art education.that you may want to write to form information. They won't be cheap. Memphis School of Design,Memphis Tennessee,and.The Art Insitutes in Georgia. Both offer a wide range approach to the arts.from applied arts to industrial design, to graphics, to the fine arts and any cross-overs that you might come up with between those different disciplines. They will send you very nice packages with information. In the past they included DVDs, that they produced at the schools using their own facilities, about the schools and what they offer. I don't mean to promote any school,I attended neither of these. And there are other universities out there. But it all boils down to you. You have to do some research, see what is out there that interests you. Arm yourself with information to be able to make that life decision. It is your life,.your choice. Win,lose or draw,it will be a learning experience either way keep that in mind in whatever decision you make. Good luck.Keep making art/

Im a 19yr old self-taught artist and I have no Idea where to go from here. I love working with Digital and Traditional Media. I really like sketching out ideas and then working deeply on the ideas I see potential in. I also tend to draw more modern and fantasy works and I really love drawing cars, especially just quick sketching cars and designing cool concepts.

So that's what I do art-wise, but if anyone could lead me into a good direction, I would appreciate it. I need to know if I should pursue Illustrating, Free-Lance, Fine art or what? I would really like to work for a video game company, designing artwork and making concepts.

What Schools should I go to, are art schools even necessary? Is it ok not to have a Masters in Art? Please, I need all the advice i can get, preferably from someone who has already went through one of these paths.
