Well I was off to a job interview today, and on the bus ride there two teens...I'm guessing anywhere from the ages of 15-17 started to harass me. It started by one of them lightly bumping me and I turned around to see what it was in a casual manner. I turn around and hear them say things like "this guy better watch it or he' gonna get it" and whatnot. One then rudely bumps into me and tries to put me to one side and I told them to watch it (in a more-than casual pissy tone) and he snapped at me. His friend then tried to push me out of the bus at the next stop(failed attempt) and I just stand there laughing and telling him "wanna go" and that typical b.s. that I don't wholeheartedly mean.
When we get off the bus, I start to walk off without any eye contact to the two teens and the larger one comes over to me and tries to smack my ipod out of my hand (another failed attempt) and I kind of lost it on him. I told him "what do you think you're doing?" and I gave him a push, and the whole conflict ended there. It was also in front of a cop station so I was lucky it never evolved into more.
Now that you know my situation, my question is how to deal with these kinds of ignorant kids without the use of violence. I am 18 and very tall and decently-built and I believe I could have defended myself in such a situation, albeit I was a little shaken. I just want to know how to deal with this in a way that won't make me look like a jackass or get me arrested or anything like that. I never know when I'm gonna have the same problem, but with a person who can easily take me on and injure me, so knowing from this situation would help for future confrontations.
I have a lot of issues just ignoring it and being submissive in such a case due to my elementary school years when I was harassed big time. It makes me feel like I'm living that nightmare again and I just don't want to seem weak or whatnot to myself. However, as much as I would like to physically retaliate it's just something that is totally irresponsible of my to do and could land me in deep trouble.
