...answer...pleaseee? Okay so the question that I need to answer for an essay response is "Why did the US enter World War II? What were the key events leading to American's involvement (include both Asian and Europe in your answer)."
This is my answer:
Europe’s economy was destroyed by the Depression and the Fascist party had taken hold. Adolph Hitler took over Germany and wanted to dominate all of Europe and many others. He started violating the Treaty of Versailles when he built an army in Germany and he put an army in Rhineland in 1936. Hitler tried to take over Sudetenland and Austria in 1938. In 1939, he took over the rest of Czechoslovakia and invaded Poland. This marked the beginning of World War II, when Britain and France declared war against Germany. During this time, the US declared neutrality and wanted nothing to do in the war. However, President Franklin Roosevelt wanted to help the allies and the US openly favored the allied powers Britain and France. The vast majority of western Europe was under German control by this time. In 1940, Roosevelt accepted the fact that the US had to prepare for the war.
Congress passed the Lend-Lease Act, which loaned war materials to Britain and France in return for leases on British air bases which would help the economy. This act stated that Roosevelt could direct aid to whomever he wanted, which meant that the US was no longer neutral. At this time, German U-boats were attacking all shipping around the US and Roosevelt gave the order for the US to shoot even before the open declaration of war.
Japan had militarism and wished to expand Japanese influence for a large army and navy. The US was in charge of exporting oil and scrap metal to Japan and in 1937, the war on the Chinese broke out. Oil and metal transmission was stopped and so the influence of Japan stopped as well. It was at this time that Japan decided to attack the US. The American naval base Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, 1941 by Japanese USS Shaw. On December 8th, the US declared war on the Empire of Japan and at the same time, Germany declared war on the US because Germany is allies with Japan. The US was fully engaged in the World War II alongside the allied powers France and Britain by this point.
I know it's really long but I would really appreciate some feedback. History is not my best subject and this essay is for a midterm in my college class...THANK YOU so much.
By the way, this paper is only worth 50 points. The objective part of the exam is worth the other 40 points. The paper only needs to be a PAGE long, and I have left out the introduction and the conclusion.
