How does Marlowe portray hell in Dr Faustus?

All previous dramas including TAMBURLAINE had dealt with single minded individuals . If a struggle in the heart of hero was introduced , that struggle normally took the form which is to be seen in the morality plays , the struggle being symbolized by conflicting bodies of minor characters .In ''DOCTOR FAUSTUS'' marlowe attempted something new , the deleniation of a struggle within the soul of man . This struggle is certainly somewhat primitive in its expression but it is a foretaste of those inner tends . Faustus in this respect is questionably the greatest tragic figure in sixteenth century literature outside the work of shakespeare .
Faustus lived in ''RHODES'' in london . He has great lust for the knowledge of necromancy . He wanted to demi devil . After gaining the great knowledge of black magic , he had much sins or evilness like pride . luxury , glutton , wrath ,sloth , lechery etc . He sold his soul to thedevil,s head ''Lucifer'' for 24 years in exchange to gain theknowledge of necromancy . Soon after had sold away the soul , he entered an ever present private hell like that of ''MEPHISTOPHILIS'' , and in to it he sinks deeper and deeper . Though he had begained to had powerful spirits obey his every command , he is quickly conscious that , instead of ensalving these spirita , he had been enslaved by them . He could not hide his action and thoughts from them , whereas he could hide theirs from him . He could not had doubt about whether he had made a good bargain without their knowing of then and , if things get ti certain point of seriousness , without their taking steps to stop him from thinking and acting . He is literally bedevilled by them .He had deserted an ardous path leading to new knowledge abd sought for quick and easy gained . In his boundless desires to go forward , he had actually turned backward
Marlowe gives to Faustus a dream of power similar to but more subtle in design of action than ''TAMBURLAINE''. Doctor Fautus is thus the tragedy of a man who in striving boundlessly misdirect great gifts of mind and spirit and hence progreeively loses his soul by disintegration as well as by capture .
The first thing , which cam in faustua that was ''PRIDE'' .
'' THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PROUD , HAVE NO LOGIC AND REASON''

After gaining the power of knowledge , he rejected even the spirit,s order or information about magic . He wanted to become demi god . He did vulgur jokes with the people of ''ROME'' from disappearing himself through necromancy .He shew his art of magic to the emperor of kingdom in ROME . He demanded hellen from the devil ''MEPHISTOPHILIS'' , which was his lust because he had lost all senses after gaining the power of black magic . In his blindness of necromancy , he said ,
''HELL IS NOT SO BAD''.
During the proceedure of necromancy God sent his good angel for advising him to avoiding from that thing , which he is doing beacause it will be the cause of his ruin . Once he wanted to repent from God but when he started for it then the bad angel came from the devil and changed his mind , then FAUSTUS said, ..
''my heart is so hardn'd. i cannot repent''
That was his inner feelings , which was forcing him to think that God will not forgive him because now he had full with sins and his contract will be finished soon , which he did from devil . He shouted that he did,nt want to go hell ,it,s better that his soul should be transfered in to any atom like plant , animal atc .After doing so many sins Faustus had guilty conscious that now he will be not safe from the punishment of God so how he could repent from him . So now the faustus,s time had been over and God arranged his marry with hell.:) .
''MAGIC IS ILLUSION''
Faustus is a kind of every man ; yet there is a sharp difference between this plan EVERY BOTH , ofcourse , deal with the problem of human beings who have made serious mistakes with regard to values , and both protagonist undergo penance for their errors . But every man,s error is caught in time, he has the will to draw back , the final stress is upon his achievment of heavenly rewards .
The final speech of Faustus gathers up and focusses all the feeling of the earlier scenes . For instance ,
''See ,see, where christ,d blood streams it not?'' in his haste to sell his soul . He ended with desperate commands to body and soul , to God and the devils , as though by the exercise of his will he could reverse the course of his events .. Thus the Doctor Fautus reveals for the first time in English drama the full possibilities of psychological tragedy . A mind is at war with itself . The psychological conflict of motives is not between man and man for the domination of one character over another but between the visionary forces of mind . The battle is being fought between the limitless and unconquerably region of the mind .
