How does Marketing/ Financial Services Company pay their co-workers/ employees?

How does Marketing/ Financial Services Company pay their co-workers/ employees?? I saw recent ads about both part time/ full time opportunity. If the company hires me, do they pay me to so that I can become licensed and work for them?? or do I have to get licensed first to get paid??
