How does automatic transmission fluid measure if it's still cold?

I just replaced the transmission fluid in my car and I know, to check it properly, the car is supposed to be warmed up, on a level surface, and all that. I just drove it for a bit (not even a couple miles) and the dipstick read that the tranny fluid is way overfilled. so my question is; if the transmission is cold, does the dipstick read that the tranny fluid is overfilled or under filled?

You cant check ur fluid after you drove because the fluids get hot and rises up. The best way to check it is start it up when its cold and check it
