what i mean is...for example....how come the los angeles lakers are the LOS ANGELES Lakers. what makes them obliageted to call themsleves los angeles? does the city pay them a commission or whatever? is there some kind of legal bind between a city and its sport team? i thought it was where the stadium was located but then most stadiums are owned by some different compnay that may not have anything to do w/ sports. i thought i was where the players live but the players can live anywhere they want even in surrounding cities. for example...if i bought the lakers, can i relocated them to the next city over (15 miles away, geographically the same) and call them the glendale lakers (the city mentioned)?
how does a sports team get affilitated/associated/obligated to a city?
