death of their child in military? Hello,

I'm working on a novel and there's a moment where the main character loses his wife in the military (she joined the Air Force) and the Casualty Assistance Calls Officer, along with a Chaplain, come to his house to notify him of her death.

I saw online there is a manual that they must follow in addressing the spouse, it just never went into specifics.

So I was wondering what a CACO and a Chaplain (if he/she even decides to speak) would say to someone to notify them of the death of a family member?

Do they give specifics about how the person died? Are they vague? Do they bring anything with them to the house?

Basically, what would the dialogue be like from the point when they were to knock on the door and have the family member answer.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
