How Does A 2001 Honda Civic Handle In The Snow?

I'm considering getting a 2001-2005 model Honda Civic, I know they are reliable and last a long time, but I have no clue what they're like in winter weather. I live in northern Vermont so we get lots of snow/sleet/freezing rain and I've always had a 4x4 car so this would be my first front wheel drive car. I'd obviously get winter tires, but how are Civic's in snow or ice?
