How do you write an e-mail showing interest in returning to a job?

Hi,

Im a co-op student whose headed into my 2nd year.

I just completed my 1st work term and I want to return back for my next co-op.

How would I go about writing to my HR adivisor about this without sounding to desperate.

Should I also start by saying something along the lines of, "Thank you for this valuable work experience...etc etc" or is that much and should get right to the point.
