How do you work a game shark for the PS2?

Ok i just bought a brand new game shark for my ps2 (which is about 5 years old but works pretty good)but it keeps saying dics read error everytime i put it in.What's wrong with it???its NEW!!!
 
I would say try cleaning it first of all....
Second of all, most Gameshark CD's have issues with a PS2, so if anything, exit to the main menu, go to memory card (or whatever) put the CD in, and wait until the CD highlights as Gameshark.
