I have already built the canoe, and I have built a bed right next to it, and I filled up my motive bars as full as they will go, but it still won't let me use it! I sleep as much as I can and as soon as my sim wakes up I take it to the canoe and yet again a box comes up telling me to sleep more or build a better bed, but I am making it sleep in the best bed I have!
