Personally I decided to buy a no-name brand one from DealExtreme called an R4Ultra(just a ripoff of the actual R4) because I didn't want to pay a lot. From what I can tell it's certainly better value for money that the expensive ones, it only cost me about $10 as compared to upwards of $50 and $60 for others. It has most of the functions and lets you play home brew games and such exactly as well as the others. When oyu by a flash-cart you will also need to purchase a SD (normally micro SD) card to go with it. Though some come bundled, these deals are often worse because you pay more for the SD card. Once you have both of these it's simply a matter of putting the firmware on, normally provided or from a download, and any applications you want and that's it. Check out the ones on some of the cheaper websites, it could certainly be worth your while.
