How do you use feng shui colors within a room (like mixing and things)?

I am decorating my future bedroom and bathroom. I am confused about how feng shui uses colors. I know you should not mix fire and water (for example). The problem is my bathroom has a brown shower curtain, and I like it. It is technically a wood color, so can I leave it in my bathroom (which is technically fire and earth)? Or is that bad feng shui? Are you allowed to mix different element colors at all?
Please answer earnestly. I am just trying to make sure my first place (that i'm paying for) is perfect! I do not practice feng shui religiously, but I do like the idea of being centered!
