How do you turn down a church offer without sparking a religious debate?

I've (usually, not very often) been able to get by with "I can't wake up that early" or, if it's a nighttime service, "I have plans/a date/whatever."

If my mom's there, she says "It's against her religion." Which, while slightly witty, tends to lead to questions like "Do you believe in this god I'm not going to respect by specifying?", "Well, how do you explain this thing I'm going to point out that already has a scientific explanation?", "REPENT!" "That's not a question.", ect.

I've usually got a place to be, and religious debates with the folks I like around is like trying to talk to a brick wall. No, scratch that. Bricks are far more intelligent than these people.

Any suggestions? And, if they DO spark a religious debate, what's the best way to flee/rebuttal to give? Especially to Creationists who dislike reasoning.
I live in the south, so 99% of the people I meet, yes, are Christians. I never said I didn't want you to know what religion they are. They're also very nosy buggers in my town, they always want to know WHY I can't attend.
