How do you throw away some of the hairstyles in the Sims 3 game?

I was wondering because after I downloaded some hairstyles into my Sims 3 game, the game started running really slowing so I was trying to delete some of them in the recycling bin, but the bin won't let me click it - it's colored gray. Is there some way I could delete some of the old hairstyles and such?
