How do you test to see if something is silver, nickel, rhodium or steel?

I brought a pedant from a store and the person said it was sterling silver and im starting to think they were lying; there is no mark on it and that is whats worrying me but i have heard sometimes there isnt a mark on silver

I want to know how can i test it and see if its silver, nickel, rhodium, steel or some other white metal I want to know exactly what metal it is.
