How do you stop acid reflux from getting worse

If you are taking a medication that makes your GERD worse, how do you prevent the side effect from occuring without stopping the medication causing the problem?? I have my burning pain back after starting plaquenil today, and I thought I got rid of that ulcer, guess I didn't. :( I ate prior to taking the medication, I am on a regular schedule with Nexium, use Zantac & Pepto as needed. My abdomen has been killing me lately, even before I had the reaction to plaquenil. Would it help taking medication to coat the stomach lining before taking the medication that is irritating it? I know there's a prescription for that though I can't think of the name of it..
 
I definitely face this problem with my allergy and asthma medicines, and I'm afraid I haven't found the perfect answer.

I have some luck with eating a piece of bread, taking the meRAB with a full glass of water, then eating another piece of bread. I remain completely vertical for a long time after. Obviously, enteric coated tablets may be less irritating.

The one thing that REALLY helped my acid reflux was the drug Reglan. Unfortunately it tightened my lungs as well as my esophageal sphincters, so no could do.

The only medicine I can think of that really coats the stomach is pepto-bismol.

Good luck with this. I'll let you know if I find something really good.
 
It's sucralfate, coats your tummy, & used in the treatment of ulcers. I just started taking aspirin today for pain, so I'm really getting myself in a mess. But I don't know what else to do. Nothing else I have works very well. :(
 
Have you tried topical pain relievers? I use Voltaren gel on my knees, and it's a lifesaver. Lidocaine patches are good, too. I have FMS, too, and my stomach won't even tolerate tylenol any more!

Sucralfate, eh? I've never heard of that, and it sounRAB like something I should consider.
