1) Joe wants to make a path around the outside perimeter of his vegetable garden, which is 50 feet by 70 feet. If the path is of uniform width and the entire garden and path are to cover a surface area of 4524 square feet, how wide should the path be?
2) A rectangular piece of metal is 13 in. by 18 in. Four equal squares will be cut from the corners and the metal folded up to make a box whose bottom has an area of 176 square inches. What is the length of each square that is cut from the corners.
