Our family just got a black lab 8 week year old bitch she is so cute and playful but last night for the first night she whined and cried so much that I couldn't get to sleep!! I only got 6 hours sleep and I really feel worried and anxious when the puppy goes to bed at night......

She is being "crate trained" at the moment , she has two toys with her, a hot water bottle and a ticking clock.....she seems fine when she has a nap during the day but at night she really does bring the tantrums coming!

P.S- I do not have any ear-plugs! ;-)

Thanks !!

You need to take your dog to the vet and since your dog is a she she might be pregnant. But i doubt it, but you still need to take her to the vet.

she's just nervous about being in a new home and not being with you guys.
you're just going to have to ignore it.
eventually she'll get that whining won't get her anything.
in the meantime you're just going to have to try your very best to sleep through it.
you could try playing with her or giving her a walk to tire her out, so she'd fall asleep faster.

she is afraid and u need to sleep next to her for the first few night

before u go to bed feed the dog and then take it outside for a quick walk and it will be fine and then eventually you wont have to do this anymore.

You should have her sleep in a room NEXT to yours but not in your room somewhere like the laundry room or an office. Usually its because puppys miss theyre moms but they grow out of it...

I expect she's scared and lonely by herself. Can you put her in the bedroom with you?
If not buy some ear plugs as you can't put up with that or else you'll go nuts.

You have to ignore it even though it's hard. If she figures out she gets attention by whining, even negative attn, she will continue.

She wants attention. When you were 8 wks old you were the same way. Try putting a radio close by turned down low. Also you can lay a breatheable towl over the crate only when you go to bed. Take it off as soon as you wake up. It will learn this is quite time. Last... Take you dog outside more often to potty. They will wake up in the middle of the night with the need to go. As it gets older it can hold it's bladder longer.

Great question.
I too had this problem. There are a couple of solutions:
1. Try to ignore her (not the best solution)
2. For the first night try to put the crate in ur room, then, second night, a little further from your room and so on...until you reach the place where she is supposed to sleep.
3. Beside her crate or a little far, try to put some sort of music with lots of words and people talking so she thinks someone is around. That way you can get some sleep and she can too!
Good Luck!

Don't let anyone give her the slightest attention when she does this.Don't yell at her, shush her or let her out.Don't even look at her or talk about her.She will learn that this behavior does not work.It may take time.

i had the same thing wen i got my black lab at 8 weeks, and we were crate training him. just make sure you don't give them attention when they whine, as they then learn you come to them when they whine so will keep doing it. just leave her to calm herself down and go to sleep, and it should stop really soon. she just wants attention cuz its a new environment for her
