How do you set the ignition timing on a 1995 Toyota Truck 4 cylinder (22RE engine)?

"You did remove the vacuum advance
for a carb'ed engine or short the check connector of an EFI engine so
you're actually checking the base timing?"
Is a comment on one of the boards.
I am not sure how you "short the check connector of an EFI engine"
to disable the advance. Or if this is important enough to
worry about.

Yes, this is important. On a Ford, it is called a spout connector. WHen it is unplugged, it prevents the ignition from advancing so that you can determine the base setting. You can go to ALLDATA data base at many libraries to find out where it is. Also, a Haynes manual would be helpful.

take number one spark plug put your finger in the hole get someone to crank engine untill you feel air or pressure on your finger .then turn engine with hand ,until timing marks line up with pulley and intake .your firing order should be on intake or mfg book .make sure your distributor is pointing toward number one piston mark your distbutor tower before taking off distibutor on the number one wire that way you want forget .remove vacuum advance hose or timing light is best
