How do you script(php) for a simple pet game?

I know you need image files for the pet, hit point bar, food and background, and that you need to define every function you plan on using (in this case, calculating hit points based on feeding), but I am having trouble figuring out how to script it.

Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial for specific functions like that? I'm no good at php...
