How do you replace the valve cover gasket and PVC valve on 97 Chevy Cavalier?

mark the plug wires before taking them off the plugs, remove all wiring and hoses out of your way, take a 3/8 ratchet and i think the bolts are a 10 mm. you probably need an extension on the ratchet, take the bolt out and if the pan won,t come loose hit the pan with a rubber hammer and take the pan off. clean the gasket surface on the pan and the head, install a new gasket. if it,s a cork gasket use a sealant on the gasket, install the pan and gasket, put the bolts back in and just snug the bolts, don,t tighten them too much or you will warp the pan, put the plug wires on.

well you have picked a good one too learn on here ---and ya did the 1 thing rite i have a yr. make. and model with a cic, ok here we go -- the air filter is going to be in the way so thats going to go but it does have vac. tubes under it so go and label those and you gonna tape as well as label a bunch of chitt here the calivier has a gang of vacume hoses that if you cross them your dust and if this valve cover is that bad leaking get some rags and latex gloves you dont want oil all over you and it s a saftey thing . so . take off the air cleaner mark the hoses nextthe sensors and hoses above te valve cover mark those and one thing-- if and im shure the plug wires runn over the top you got too label those cause this if not done rite its a waste of time and money!!!! dont band on the valve cover its made of thin metal and dont distort it pry it off or it just may pop off be ffore you go taking it all down see if the nuts are tight ? so scrape off valvecovergasket on the cover and head that it sits on and dont get any thing in the valve train or galleys next its important to know w/ type of gasket you need -- if its cork or rubber go cork w/ permintex gasket sealer black and reverse the instructions ive said don crank valve/cvr nuts too far down and sinch them down in a cross up and down pattern togive equal tourque specs make it ever and drive it a week and double ck your work

Finally - a good question.

Your best bet would be to get yourself a Haynes or Chilton manual for your car from the local Autozone or Advance Auto.

It will walk you right through the steps and also get you more familiar with your car. If you have a question on where a sensor is located or "How do I check a....." a manual like this a a great place to start for someone that is learning about their car.

Good luck!
