how do you replace the fan switch on a mazda protege?

its a 2002. not sure how to take out the center dash to get to the switch. my a/c cycles on and off in fan speed positions 2-4. if i jiggle the dash or move it a little i can get the a/c to come on a bit. but it usually cuts back off. i think its bad wiring or a bad switch or something.
