how do you remove a bicycle chain.I need to somehow clean it before i can put...

You do not have to remove a chain to properly clean it for one but if you must then you will need a chain tool to remove a link and since you ask then I assume that you don't know how to do it properly and you cannot take a pin out all the way or you will never get it back in easily unless it is compatible with the chain size you have and you have an extra one. See here for cleaning without removing the chain: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=11379&subcategory_ID=4206 and this tool to remove a link in the chain: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=11379&subcategory_ID=4206 and cleaners are always essential for the chain cleaner see here: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=25560&subcategory_ID=4205 It does not matter which brand you use and any degreaser will clean your frame off easily without removing the chain. Test an inconspicuous area first.

unscrew backwheel, push wheel forward a bit, and then take chain off.

thats if its a bmx bike. if its a mountain or track im not too sure.

I don't think you really have to remove it in order to clean it. Cleaning it you can use something like the Park Tool Chain Gang Cleaner CG-2 Cleaning System. Or if you want to do it a poor-man's way, you can probably just wipe it clean with a rag and hot water, haha, but I wouldn't really recommend that so much.
