Does anyone have a site or know how to move fish from one house to another. I'm not switching tanks, but I may move soon and I just want all my fish to make it alive. I can't really afford to buy another tank and set it up, I'd like to know if there's a way to transport the same tank, and the fish. Help! I'm confused.

Small 10 gal. tank
8 small fish
(need any more info.?)

Don't try to move the tank with water in it, it will be very heavy and could crack. but save as much water as is practical in clean containers with lids (buckets, garbage bins). With a tank that size, you could probably leave the gravel in, and leave a little water in it, to keep it wet.

You can probably transport the fish in a covered bucket as well.

If you're moving them within the same city, so they are not in transit too long, they should be fine - it's not that hard. You can put a heater in the bucket to keep them warm while you set the tank back up.

I would avoid cleaning the gravel, or adding too much new water, so that chemically things stay as similar as possible, and you retain the microbes living in the gravel - keep wood, ornaments, plants etc wet for the same reasons (they could go in plastic bags or buckets). You will probably find the water gets murky from the disturbance, but this will settle mostly in a few hours.

Good luck.

put the fish tank in a plastic ben thats a little bit bigger than the fish tank and put it in the back seat of your car but make sure you take some water out because it will probably be tilted in the back seat thats how i moved my 20 gal. fish tank

Use a big zip-lock bag in a cooler with a handle. You want to make sure that the water temperature does not change, and that the fish have plenty of oxygen in the bag (not carbon dioxide).

How far are you moving? If you are going far, you might want to get a tiny air blower - the ones for 2-5 gallon tanks. Use the blower on and off. You don't want to over oxygenate the water too (the bag is smaller than a 2-5 gal fish tank, so the air pump is going to be a little stronger). The fish need the oxygen replenished in their water because they use it up.

Good luck!

well, fish put ever fish in a seperate plastic bag (like a clear one not like a shoping one) with a little bit of tank water ( dont keep them there for no more then a day) then when u get to ur new house fill the tank and put the bags in the water and let them just bob there for a half hour befor opening them and leaving the bags in the tank until the fish swim out then take out the bags simple

Speaking from experience i had moved my fishes from one house to another simply by having someone hold onto the tank with about 1/3 the amount of water in it. O..and the person driving had to drive really slowly so we did it at night (less traffic). Can't guarantee that it works for all fishes. But my fishes survived the trauma. I have 6 fishes. Plus the fishes didn't have to adapt to another tank environment with different new water. Hope this is helpful for you :)
