How do you make a Poster on Photoshop CS4 Extended?

Ok, well I'm completely new to Photoshop and I know that you can cut images (like a footballers body) and paste them onto another background. I want to do this with footballers heads so I can make pictures like Messi in a Utd kit and that. I usually select path then right click then Make section then Copy Merged but I can't move the image now. Can anyone help me? Thanks
