How do you let a guy know that you are interested in him, but not if he wants to

have sex right away? Joey from friends is asked "are guys nice to girls for no reason" his reply, "no only for sex." Is this a universal truth? I have found that every straight adult male is nice to me only if they expect something in return. It doesn't even matter if they are married, old or young.
I really wanted to do something musically so I went to this songwriters meeting on Sunday and met this guy. I suggest that we do something musically. He agrees and comes over and we practice. So I think this is great. This music is great, and the guys not bad either. So fast forward to the open mic night. After we are done with the second set and he is a little sloshed we are talking and laughing. So he oh so subtly suggests that he come over again. You know what I mean. So I ask him to clarify and he does and I say that hey we've only known each other for a week, I don't do that so early. So he basically says never mind. Now I am sad. I really like him too, but I'm not a skanky ho. I want him to know I'm not shooting him down, but I'm just not a fast girl.
He is also on the board of this songwriters association and I would like to go to the next meeting, but I don't know if it's going to be awkward.
Do you think he was only interested in me because he wanted to sleep with me from the beginning or was he really interested in me musically?
 
Guys can like you and want to have sex with you. Don't let it bother you, even if they act like they dont, they do.
 
maybe both but you need to learn how to be blunt. learn to say what you feel or how you feel. if not you will always be wondering when you need to know
 
i dunno i guess it depends on the guy,
maybe he does like u and just thought he could jump the gun, i mean most ppl do that today shamlessly i might add,
you should contact him for a friendly get together,
perhaps it will clear up on its own, if he ignores you then it was prolly all about sex,
