how do you launch apps on a jailbroken iphone?

i just recently jailbroke my 1.1.4 iphone and i installed a few apps but cant figure out how to launch them.
there is no icon showing up on the homescreen,
if i downgrade to 1.1.3 will they work then?
 
If a button appears on the front ( where the other things are)
just tap on it.

Note that not all software is compatible with the 1.1.4.
