prepared to put her in a? breeding tank just to maybe save the babies, specifically an albino rainbow shark,I saw her & my other albine rainbow shark doing the mating dance,so I'm pretty sure one is a female,I made a mental note of a specific red blotch marking near her tail to make note which one I think may be ready to lay eggs, she is hiding behind a plant in front of the tank, down low on the gravel/rocks,my rainbows are usually always pretty active,so this is unusually calm behavior,so I thought maybe she is a she & ready to lay her eggs if shes even pregnant,my fancy fan tail guppies keep going up to her & she chases them off,I thought that maybe their waiting for the eggs so they can eat them as I heard fish will do if they don't have a good hiding place to survive, which is basically the case if Mom lays the eggs there. If I were to put Mom in a breeding tank,is there someway of me knowing if she actually laid the eggs, they'll automatically drop down in the slots below, but won't they swim up back thru with the natural flow of the water back & forth with Mom's movement in the tank,I also heard Mom will eat her eggs as well,is this true? How long is Mom supposed to be left in the breeding tank,if longer than a day,do I drop the flake food into the tank for her to eat & do the babies automatically eat from that food too, right off & if not the flake food, how are the babies fed to sustain themselves till they reach old enuf to fend for themselves? How big are they when they are supposed to be let out & how long does that take for them to reach that point? I know I could probably just research all this on the internet, but what else would people ask on "answers" if we don't ask something, besides asking on "answers" is also a way for others to learn these things. I could ask all these questions separately but I thought if I could find that one person who's smart on the breeding fish subject with one question, therefore possibly taking the chance that they might miss my other questions, this way I catch that one knowledgeable fish expert, hopefully.
Thanks for any help on this matter, any OTHER suggestions/ideas about breeding fish would be welcomed with open arms/eyes.......Tks!
