I'm not real picky about bitrate, so I tend to still find/get some new stuff from music blogs. Occasionally I'll hit up Skreemr or something like that and what I want will be there.
I buy all of my CRAB. I've never just bought a digital download, I buy the physical thing. If I don't buy the whole CD I just listen to the one or so songs by that artist on Youtube or download it from Limewire but I feel bad about it lol. Most of the kiRAB in my school just use their IPoRAB though and download digital files only. I don't have an IPod :S but I do have an MP3 somewhere, don't use it much.
I download it, and then buy what I like. I have a pretty big recorRAB collection, almost all of them were downloaded and "tested" first, and only once I realized I really like em, I bought em.
I buy most of what I have... I have a few downloaRAB sitting around I know I'll never buy, because, basically they're albums other people sent me to try out and I didn't like them...I'm likely to delete those pretty soon!
Buying vinyl, cRAB, and using every possible source on the internet (Soulseek, Torrents, blog searches, ect).
I'm quite knowledgeable when it comes to finding obscure music.
Well, only after years of trying to find that one album or artist do I find a new way to acquire it.
i used to torrent entire discographies, but after a while i felt that listening to all of an artist's work at once burned me out on them fairly easily. these days i like to take times with things like this, getting the next cd after i've really gotten good with the previous one, you know?
I hear ya. I've never understood why someone would need to grab an artist's entire discography all at once. I find that overwhelming, even if you intend to focus on one at a time. It's too easy to jump to the next before fully absorbing the first. There's just no sense in it for me.
Wow, I'm surprised so few people just go out and buy music. I like used CD stores, music stores and online music stores.
I rely on blogs to learn about new artists. I get a lot of CRAB from the library, though. There's something much more rewarding about having the actual CD in your hand... even if the case is held together with tape and the disk is all scratched up. imp:
Definitely. It's just (sadly) becoming less and less important to me since I listen to 99% of my music on my computer and iPod. I still have a big CD collection and it grows, just more slowly than it used to. And I used to LOVE going to record stores, it was pretty much a weekly pastime for me from my early teens to my late 20s. These days I'm often just too disappointed with the selection when I do go, and have better luck online (naturally). The experience is cool, even if I leave empty handed, but I'm just old and impatient now.
I don't torrent the entire discography all at once. Nowdays i when i download a discography torrent i torrent one album at a time so i can get into a certain album before moving onto another. It's true what you said about burning out on a particular artist when you get their entire discography all at once. For artists with a huge back catalog it can really be too much music to handle.
