how do you get the (non vibration) bar ends off the handle bars of a honda 400ex

2000 or 2001 quad? i don't know that much about the handle bar things or whatever but my dad bought me new grips for my honda 400ex 2000/2001 quad and the factory made ones that were originally on there have (non-vibration) bar ends or w/e and we can't get them off. theres a screw in them but we still cant get them off. does anyone know how to get these off so we can put the new grips on?
