How do you get rid of an old email and gmail account off an HTC Hero from Sprint?

My dad recently upgraded to the Sprint Evo so he gave me his HTC Hero (also sprint) and I cant access the marketplace or do some other things on it because his gmail account is still set up without a password so I just need the info on how to delete his account and how to add mine, thanks.
