HOW DO YOU GET PAINT OFF OF ROUGH CEDAR?

My house has rough cedar siding, the people I just bought it from have painted it a disgusting burgundy color, it has really stained the wood, worst thing is they only painted half of it and then I guess got tired and quit, so now I have the burgundy color and the wood color, I want the wood color but I don't see any way of achieving it since that paint has stained the wood. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this stuff off?
that is what I was afraid I was going to have to do, these aren't shingles though, they are large solid pieces of wood, like you would do interior walls with, they just lay flat on the house, they are beautiful, it is in my opinion a sin to paint over such beautiful wood!! Thanks for your answer.

The effort would be monumental, and you would most likely ruin the surface of the shingles. Your only options are to paint over this mess, or remove them and re-side the house
