How do you get media card (Micro SD) to work with your phone?

I bought a Kingston 2GG micro SD card to store music and stuff on my Blackberry but can't seem to get it to work. It fits perfectly fine into the slot but the extra memory still does not show up. Also tried it on my Samsung Blast.
I know you have to connect it to a computer. I've been able to do it before with another Blackberry and SD card. But with this one, it still does not show the extra memory.
