how do you fold down back seats flat in a jeep cherokee sport 2001?

I just purchased a jeep and I wanted to know how to you fold down the back bench? I am able to release the back part of the seat but with the straps on each side of the actual seat it wont release easily. I dont want to break the seat but do you have to pull it up hard? Is there any special way to do it? thanks any information is highly appreciated!
