How do you find old news articles in local papers?

2 years ago, my 15 year old white nephew was jumped by about 20 black kids on his way home from school. They stole everything he had on him and he spent over a week in the hospital.

There was nothing more than a short article hidden on their site (you had to look for it) and it was on page 17A of the paper.

How do you find articles that are old like this?

I don't want to be called a liar for saying something about this event.
 
I'm not sure if local libraries still do this, but they used to have microfichers that would let you read all the old newspapers they had on file (usually in small film slides). They may do it differently it's been forever since I've been to library. ;] but Try the local library first..
