How do you dry up an iPod Touch that has touched water?

Okay, I didn't do this, but my stupid little 5-year-old sister did.
She wanted to try to wash the iPod. Thank god my mom stopped her in time, but now, one part of the screen doesn't work anymore. Also, when I touch the thing that shut the screen of, it doesn't really work.
Now, it doesn't even turn on.

I've heard that you could put whiteout or stick a piece of paper or WHATEVER in it, but I wasn't willing to do that.

I've also heard of putting alcohol in it, but I didn't know if that'd work either.

I don't want to do anything too risky, but if there's a solution to this, please help.

OH YEAH. And for the sensor that's in the earphone jack (I think) it's still white.

It is damaged beyond repair. It'll have to be replaced. Make sure to keep it where that 5-year-old can't get her hands on the replacement.
