how do you dispose of a fish you don't want?

i am going to be fishing on a pier soon and i do not want to keep my fish that i catch. what is proper for disposing of it?
 
Can you throw the fish back in? Is there someone that would eat the fish...friend or family? Will a food pantry type service take a fresh fish (like they take venison)? I'm guessing you are going fishing with someone...maybe they would take it...especially if they do a worse job catching than you do. Its a real shame to kill a fish and then waste it.
