How do you determine the units for a rate constant?

I know that the rate constant for a first order is s^-1, a second order is [M]^-1 s^-1, third order is [M]^-2s-1. Based on that pattern, I think that for a zero order it's [M]/s, and for a 1/2 order it would be rt([M])/s?

could anyone verify that, and explain how you actually determine that?
