How do you copy & paste using the key pad on a apple mac?

I know that with a regular computer you just press control c to cop and control p to paste but i cannot do that when i use a apple mac so i have to use the mouse. does anyone know how so that i can do it faster without having to use the mouse?
ps: its a laptop apple
