Wash it and cut off the stem. Cut off the top third of artichoke and peel off the smallest outer leaves. Put a few ounces of seasoned (garlic, salt, dill, squeeze a lil lemon and few drops of olive oil) or just add salt to the water place the choke in boiling water and cover with a lid, reduce heat to simmer, and steam for 30 to 40 minutes (depending on size) -- they are done when the leaves pull away easily. Whatever you do - do not put it in a microwave or microwavable veggie bag (which I love those) they don't work out for some reason. Use the stove.
