How do you change the first & last name assigned to your cell phone number?

I just got a new cell phone with a new number. I called my home phone to try it out, and the name on the Caller ID wasn't mine. I guess it was from the previous owner of that phone number. How can I change it to my name? I'm worried that if I call people, they won't know who it is.
