How do you become a Personal Financial Advisor?

What degree should i get and where is the best place to get a job? I would like to help people manage money and have many clients. Is this a career where you have to start from the bottom up, or can i just open some firm and look for clients on my own? Are there any special certifications that would help (like a cpa for accountants)? thanks.. if anything im guessing i can start somewhere else like an analyst and transition
