how do you add a digital background to an existing photo using adobe photoshop cs3

extended? I am using adobe photoshop cs3 extended, and i have a photo that i need to take out the existing background and add a digital background to make the picture look like a studio backdrop in the background. any help?
i extract the image in the original photo and want to add a another background, a digital background that I have. I know how to use gradients and fill patterns as backgrounds but i want to use another digital photo or a studio backdrop as the background. how do i get it to go onto the photo? i cant find a tutorial that will work for me...
 
One of the ways is to create a background layer and then combine the two layers -- your image and the bg :") More details you will find in Adobe PS Tutorial or you will need to read a book for Dummies on PS.
